GOLDEN HARVEST

Golden Harvest is the world’s premier Chinese language film company best known for its Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan films. Head quartered in Hong Kong, it iis the only fully integrated entertainment group in Asia that has film production, global film distribution, pan-Asian cinema exhibition, film processing and talent management businesses.

Founded in 1970 by Mr. Raymond Chow and the late Mr. Leonard Ho, Golden Harvest has become synonymous with quality films. Since its inception Golden Harvest films – both lavish, big-budgeted epics as well as smaller art-house fare – have consistently been hits with critics and the general audience alike. The present interest in Hong Kong films – in particular the action genre – in the West today was nurtured on many of the hits produced by Golden Harvest.

Golden Harvest has led the wave of almost all the film genres and trends, from the time it unleashed a kung fu frenzy with Bruce Lee’s The Big Boss. With Jackie Chan’s Drunken Master, Golden Harvest started a golden era for kung fu comedy in the 70s while the international star’s Police Story also launched a new wave of contemporary action comedy in the 80s. The studio took action to new heights when it brought the first Hong Kong movie to mainstream America with the release of Rumble In The Bronx in 1996. The film beat all its Hollywood competitors to open top of the box office and catapulted Jackie Chan to Hollywood fame.

Internationally-renowned directors such as John Woo, Tsui Hark, Stanley Tong, Sammo Hung as well as actors such as Chow Yun-fat and Michelle Yeoh have, at one time or another, been part of the Golden Harvest network of talent in Hong Kong.

Golden Harvest has also been exceptionally successful as an independent producer in Hollywood. The company’s English language productions include mega blockbusters such as “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “ Cannonball Run”.

The company also established a strong cinema circuit and distribution network that has thrived through its three decades of existence. Today it owns a cinema circuit that transcends geographical boundaries, with cinemas in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and China. Its distribution companies have also successfully provided a wide range of films to local audiences by bringing in many US independent blockbusters and critically acclaimed art-house fare from all over the world.

Despite its early business as just a film production company, Golden Harvest has expanded and diversified its business to encompass all aspects of the film business. It is what makes Golden Harvest a truly leading entertainment company.

Today, with the opening up of the Mainland Chinese market and the advent of new digital cinema technology, Golden Harvest is still maintaining its pioneering role in the industry by continuously forging new inroads into these areas.
